The next competitive section was a Regularity over what the route book called a primitive road. The description was apt; dirt track; lots of small rocks like marbles; and much standing water. It turned out to be a long 13 km section and we missed a perfect time by 4 seconds (we were too fast). While lots of competitors will have a better time, we were pleased with only a 4 second penalty, especially since I screwed up starting the stop watch at the beginning of the stage.
Lunch stop was at the Sheep Creek Ranch and I had reindeer for lunch. Tasted a bit like spicy sausage, but very tasty.
The afternoon was a long haul over the mountains to Fairbanks, Alaska’s largest city (population about 35,000). We had rain, low clouds and fog most of the day, so we never saw great vistas for picture taking.
We’re off early tomorrow headed for Dawson City, Yukon Territory, Canada. It will again be a long drive of over 600 km.
