Day 10-Kamloops to Osoyoos, British Columbia

Our last night in Canada. We’re staying the night in the small town of Osoyoos, which is about 5km north of the American Border. We will cross the border into the US first thing tomorrow morning.

Today, our first Stage was a Regularity that had two timings sections. However, about a kilometer into our run we saw other competitors (who had started before us) coming back down the course.

What happened? A local homeowner was furious that a group of car enthusiasts had chosen the dirt road in front of his house to run their event. Too much noise; too much dirt in the air; and too much speed (50km in front of his house). He called the cops and parked his very large truck across the dirt road preventing any of the competitors from proceeding. With no other choice, the Clerk of the Course (i.e. the Rally Master) cancelled the Stage.

The other two Stages for the day were Speed Stages; one on a small kart track and the other on a drag strip. Our times were good, but we will probably stay in our current positions. Results will be out later tonight.

The smallish towns in British Columbia are filled with all the typical fast-food joints we see throughout America. The exception here in BC, is that there are hundreds of Tim Hortons and hundreds of A&W Root Beer joints.

I know we have both in the US, but up here every small town seems to have several of these two fast-food franchises. It has been a long time since I visited an A&W, but I fondly remember as a kid a Root Beer Float…..a large glass of root beer with a scoop of vanilla ice cream….ah, to be young again.

Today’s lunch stop was at the 50th Parallel Winery; a newly built operation with a spectacular winery and a view from their tasting room overlooking a beautiful lake. It looked like a bit of Switzerland come to British Columbia.

Cool photo!
Local resident parked an 18-wheeler in the middle of our
gravel road to stop our Regularity. He didn’t any a bunch of
crazy drivers racing in front of his house. The Stage was cancelled.
On a high hill overlooking Osoyoos, known as one of the
best dirt bicycle trails and hiking trails in North America.
