Day 11-Osoyoos, British Columbia to Leavenworth, Washington

Back in the USA! We crossed the border early this morning. Very easy; quite civilized.

Up here in northern Washington there is a lot of agriculture. Main crops are apples, cherries and wine grapes. We had lunch at the Lost Point Winery; sitting on their patio overlooking a beautiful valley full of crops ready for harvest.

Results came in last night and we remain 3rd in class and 8th overall.

Today we had three Regularities; all long and difficult. On the first, we had two double-loaded lumber trucks coming at us in the middle of the Stage. These big rigs were running at high speed and occupied most of the gravel road. Brant was brilliant in getting past them; we had two wheels off the road and just slipped past the trucks. The logging trucks could have moved over, but didn’t.

It was all over in a moment, but a bit dangerous.

The other two Regularities had their moments as well. Very narrow tracks; long distances (one went on for almost 30km); and big rocks in the gravel. Hopefully, our penalty points won’t drop us in the standings.

Tonight we are in Leavenworth, a small town that is completely decked out as a German village in the Black Forest. Architecture, food and dress all look to be out of a Hansel & Gretel storybook; quite charming.

Tomorrow we’re off to Walla Walla and we will get our well-earned Rest Day.

Another shot of the lumber trucks.

Stunning views for lunch 😊

  1. Oh boy! I remember so many of those logging trucks. After a hard rain we slid of the “road” and got stuck in the mud. Guys from the logging trucks picked up the little VW and got us back on the road. They were very big guys.
