Day 9-Prince George to Kamloops, British Columbia (556 km)

Competition: Two Regularities and two Speed Stages.

First Regularity was a tricky one. We started at 55kph and then went to 42kph. The organizers terminated the Regularity within 400 meters after the speed reduction which meant that we were going too fast at the end and we arrived 5 seconds early, resulting in a 5 second penalty. The two Speed Stages were run at a local kart track. Our times were among the best and we received only a few penalty points. Finally, the last Regularity was run over an off-road track that had lots of mud holes. Again we were 6 seconds early, but that was a pretty good time relative to the rest of the field.

Bottom line -- we did not advance or fall in the standings. We are still third in class and eighth overall; a satisfying day given the difficulty of the Stages.

Saw a black bear; a grey wolf (or maybe a coyote) and lots of magpies.

The scenery has changed dramatically. We’re out of the forests and we’re into barren mountains. This is the place to see Big Horn Sheep….and while we saw a lot of signs announcing their presence, we did not see any of these majestic animals.

Tomorrow, we’re off to Osoyoos, British Columbia for our last night in Canada. The following day we will cross the American border and will be in the State of Washington.
