Day 20 Moab to Bluff, Utah

A beautiful, brisk morning to get back on the road.

We had two Regularities and a Speed Test today. We did well on the Speed Test and not so well on the Regularities. I’m getting a little suspicious. This is the second time we got a perfect score by finishing with the ideal time on a Regularity and thereafter they changed the ideal time and we accumulated penalty points. The first, several days ago, we got 10 penalty points; today 6 penalty points…..notwithstanding that when we finished the Stage, the Marshall said we had done it perfectly. I’m not usually a supporter of conspiracies, but I having been doing these rallies for 10+ years and have never seen the organizers change the ideal time for a Stage, let alone twice in three days……what to make of all of this?

The highlight of the day was stopping at Needles Point Viewing Platform. The view was spectacular. Like the Grand Canyon, the work of carving the cliffs was done by the Colorado River over the last million years.

From our viewpoint you could look for 50+ miles in every direction. It was great.

Former competitors that didn’t make it. Just kidding; it’s a VW graveyard.

Some of the competitors spent the night in a Tee Pee; I stayed in a proper room.

  1. I’m still here watching every day you post, I just got busy. I love the pictures and I love the narrative. You’re doing a great job. Looks like a wonderful adventure. Interesting conspiracy theories. Sounds quite possible.

  2. Changing the rules of the game after the fact? No need to believe in conspiracies to feel that something is wrong here. Know a good lawyer? Good luck in the days ahead!
