Day 14 Walla Walla, Washington to Boise, Idaho

Big day for me. I celebrated my 81st birthday driving on dirt roads from Washington, through Oregon and into Idaho.

All of the competitors were very generous with their "Happy Birthdays." Many of ladies delivered cards to me.

In addition to my many friends who sent greetings I heard from Ilene, Chuck, Jennifer and Asher.

All in all it was a fine birthday…..and I’m now working on 82.

It was a very long day. We started in the mountains with beautiful pine trees and ended up in high desert with brown gravel roads that seemed to go on forever.

Competitively, we maintained our third place in class snd 8th overall. The first of our three Regularities today was tricky; no diabolical. We scored a lousy 14 second penalty, but other competitors had even a worse score, so maybe I shouldn’t complain.

I’ve heard from some of you who are surprised that I’ve become so competitive re the scoring. Make no mistake, my goal is to reach Cabo on our own power. However, given who I am it is very tough to ignore the competitive scoring tables. As long as I’m out here in the midfield of nowhere, I might as well try my best….why not?

Finally, thank you to all of you who sent along birthday greetings. I appreciate your kind thoughts.
